Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! Disney line in 2012, this figure represents Merida, the protagonist of the Pixar film Brave. The item was produced to coincide with the theatrical release of the movie, capturing the character in her signature deep green gown with her unruly, fiery red hair. As the first Pixar princess, Merida marked a significant shift in Disney's character archetypes, and this figure serves as a snapshot of that transition in animation history.
The design of the figure follows Funko's established aesthetic, characterized by a stylized, oversized head, large black eyes, and a minimalist body. Designers aimed to translate Merida’s distinct features, such as her wild curls and bow, into the compact vinyl format while maintaining instant recognizability. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by collectors who sought to round out their Disney Princess displays with a character who offered a distinct departure from traditional royalty.
