Where it came from
Mr. Compress, born Atsuhiro Sako, was introduced as a pivotal member of the League of Villains in the My Hero Academia manga and anime series created by Kohei Horikoshi. This Funko Pop! figure represents his classic design, featuring his signature Victorian-inspired theatrical attire, including his top hat, formal coat, and the iconic mask that obscures his face. The character is known for his quirk, which allows him to compress anything he touches into small spheres, a unique ability that Funko sought to translate into their standard stylized 3.75-inch vinyl format.
As part of the broader My Hero Academia Animation series, this figure was released to satisfy collector demand for the series' antagonists, known as the Vanguard Action Squad. Funko’s designers focused on replicating the character's mysterious aesthetic, emphasizing the clean lines of his mask and the dramatic silhouette of his ensemble. Upon its release in the wave covering the Training Camp and Hideout Raid arcs, the figure was well-received by fans of the series for its accuracy to the source material and its role in completing the League of Villains shelf displays.
