Where it came from
The Mrs. Potts and Chip vinyl figure was released by Funko as part of their Pop! Disney line to coincide with the 2017 live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. This figure series was designed to reflect the more intricate, CGI-rendered aesthetic of the film's characters, moving away from the flatter, stylized look of the original 1991 animated version.
The design team at Funko focused on translating the ornate, gold-trimmed porcelain texture of the live-action characters into their signature chibi-style format. As part of a massive promotional rollout for the film, these figures were marketed toward both long-time fans of the Disney franchise and contemporary collectors of the Pop! vinyl aesthetic, receiving moderate attention upon their retail launch.
