Where it came from
My Melody was created by Sanrio in 1975 as a counterpart to Hello Kitty, originally inspired by the classic fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood. Over the decades, the character evolved from a simple stationery motif into a global cultural icon, known for her signature pink hood and gentle, honest personality. This particular Funko Pop figure was released to commemorate the character's 50th anniversary, reflecting her enduring status as one of the most beloved figures in the Sanrio lineup.
The design of this piece adheres to the standardized, wide-eyed aesthetic of the Pop! Sanrio series, which Funko developed to appeal to collectors of modern vinyl toys. By distilling My Melody’s iconic features into a simplified, minimalist silhouette, the designers aimed to balance the character’s classic charm with the contemporary collectible style favored by fans. It is widely recognized as a celebration of the character's longevity and her massive international influence on pop culture.
