Where it came from
Kuromi was introduced by Sanrio in 2005 as a mischievous rival to My Melody, characterized by her black jester’s hat and pink skull motif. Designed as a 'punk' counterpoint to the softer aesthetic of her peers, she quickly gained a cult following for her rebellious personality and unique gothic-lolita influence. This figure was produced as part of the Funko Pop! Sanrio series, numbered 108, specifically celebrating the 50th anniversary of the My Melody character.
The design of this Funko Pop! iteration adapts Kuromi's signature look into the stylized, large-headed vinyl format standard to the brand. It captures her recognizable expression and jester-inspired costume with the flat, bold colors that define the Sanrio aesthetic. Since its release, the figure has been received as a staple collectible for Sanrio enthusiasts, representing the long-standing popularity of the character within global pop culture.
