Where it came from
Papa Emeritus I was introduced to the Funko Pop! Rocks line as figure number 241, representing the original frontman persona of the Swedish rock band Ghost. Created by Tobias Forge, the character debuted in 2010 as a theatrical, occult-themed lead singer designed to evoke the aesthetic of classic horror films and traditional heavy metal imagery. The Funko figure captures the character's signature skull face paint, papal mitre, and embroidered vestments, reflecting the precise, campy gothic style that defined the band's initial rise to international prominence.
The figure was released as part of a collaboration between Funko and the band to commemorate their early discography, specifically the era surrounding the 2010 album Opus Eponymous. Funko’s design team sought to translate the intricate details of the character's elaborate costume into the brand's simplified vinyl aesthetic, maintaining the character's sinister yet stylized look. Upon release, the figure was well-received by the band's dedicated fanbase, serving as both a piece of merchandise and a collectible totem for followers of the band's evolving narrative arc.
