Where it came from
Rat Fink was created in 1963 by Ed 'Big Daddy' Roth as a counter-culture response to the wholesome image of Mickey Mouse. Designed as an anti-hero for the hot rod and custom car culture of Southern California, the character embodied the rebellious, jagged aesthetic of the era's lowbrow art scene. The figure remains an enduring symbol of Kustom Kulture, representing a shift toward the grotesque and the bold in American graphic design.
The Funko Pop! iteration of Rat Fink captures this legacy within the Pop! Icons series, reimagining Roth's iconic illustration in the brand's signature stylized form. The Black Chrome variant was released as a limited exclusive for San Diego Comic-Con, catering to collectors who appreciate both the character's vintage roots and the modern hobbyist trend of metallic finishes. It stands as a testament to the character's transition from 1960s underground art to a widely recognized pop culture collectible.
