Where it came from
Ripto was released as part of the Funko Pop! Games line, specifically dedicated to the Spyro the Dragon franchise. The figure depicts the primary antagonist from the original trilogy, a short-statured sorcerer who debuted in the 1999 game Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!. This character design remains faithful to his iconic look, complete with his signature oversized spectacles, royal robes, and the scepter he wields to command his forces against the titular dragon.
The figure captures the stylistic constraints of the Pop! brand, utilizing the characteristic oversized head and simplified facial features that define the series. Designed to expand the collectibility of the Spyro franchise, it was produced during a period when Funko was actively broadening its scope to include classic video game characters from the late nineties. It was generally received as a faithful representation of a nostalgic villain, appealing to long-time fans who grew up playing the Insomniac Games titles.
