Where it came from
Sauron, appearing as Pop! Movies number 1578, is part of Funko’s expansive ongoing series commemorating The Lord of the Rings. This iteration depicts the Dark Lord as he appears during the War of the Last Alliance, characterized by his towering stature and iconic spiked black armor. It was produced as a modern collectible to satisfy demand for high-detail representations of primary antagonists from J.R.R. Tolkien's legendary high-fantasy mythos.
The figure was designed by Funko’s internal creative team, who focused on capturing the intimidating silhouette of the character’s cinematic portrayal by Peter Jackson. By emphasizing the jagged textures of the armor and the distinct mace, the design aims to translate the menacing nature of the character into the company’s signature stylized, oversized-head aesthetic. Upon release, it was received as a standard addition to the broader Lord of the Rings line, appealing to collectors seeking to complete the roster of major characters from the film trilogy.
