Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! Marvel line, this figure depicts Sauron, the pterodactyl-like alter ego of Dr. Karl Lykos, as he appears in the 2023 Disney+ animated series X-Men '97. The series serves as a direct continuation of the 1990s X-Men: The Animated Series, aiming to capture the aesthetic and narrative energy of the original while updating the animation quality for a modern audience.
The figure design mirrors the character's signature look from the show, characterized by his reptilian features and distinctive wingspan. Funko’s design team opted for a stylized representation that aligns with the established Pop! aesthetic, emphasizing bold proportions and the classic vibrant color palette associated with the X-Men franchise. Upon release, the figure was received as a nostalgic addition to the broader collection of figures documenting the show's diverse cast of mutants.
