Where it came from
The Scuba McNugget figure was released as part of the Funko Pop! Ad Icons series, a line dedicated to celebrating iconic brand mascots and advertising characters. It reimagines the classic McDonald’s Chicken McNugget character from the 1980s, which originally appeared in the company's 'Happy Meal Gang' marketing campaign. This specific iteration leans into the playful nostalgia of the era, dressing the anthropomorphic nugget in vintage-style scuba gear.
The design draws heavily from the aesthetic of the 1980s Happy Meal promotions, focusing on a bright, minimalist, and rounded appearance that mimics the original cartoon-style illustrations. Like many pieces in the Ad Icons series, the figure was created to appeal to collectors who value brand history and retro food culture. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans of both the McDonald's brand and the Funko vinyl figure aesthetic, serving as a commemorative nod to a significant era in corporate mascot design.
