Where it came from
The Selfie Gwenpool figure was released as a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive in 2017, representing the character Gwendolyn Poole. Gwenpool originated as a satirical variant cover concept for Marvel Comics before transitioning into her own series, where she is portrayed as a fan from the 'real world' who realizes she is trapped inside a comic book. Her design reflects her meta-fictional nature, characterized by her distinct pink and white costume and an aesthetic that parodies traditional superhero tropes.
Designed by Funko within the Marvel Pop! line, this specific variant captures the character holding a smartphone to take a selfie, a nod to her modern, internet-savvy personality and the fourth-wall-breaking humor of her comic appearances. Upon its release at the convention, it was positioned as a niche collectible for fans of the newer Marvel character, serving as both a wearable-adjacent piece of merchandise and a statement on the character's unique place within the Marvel multiverse.
