Where it came from
Shigure Soma, number 882 in the Funko Pop! Animation line, was released to commemorate the 2019 reboot of the Fruits Basket anime series. As a central figure in the complex narrative of the Soma family curse, Shigure represents the enigmatic head of the household, known for his manipulative yet charming personality. The figure depicts him in his signature dark kimono, capturing the contemplative and reserved nature of his character design from the show's animation style.
The design process for this Funko figure focuses on distilling the character's key visual markers—specifically his long, dark hair and traditional attire—into the standardized, oversized-head aesthetic characteristic of the brand. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by fans of the shoujo classic, serving as a staple collectible for those interested in the Fruits Basket franchise, which has seen a significant surge in merchandise popularity following the conclusion of the updated anime adaptation.
