Where it came from
Shiro, identified as number 2083 in the Pop! Animation line, represents a character from the popular manga and anime series Kaiju No. 8. The series, created by Naoya Matsumoto, debuted in 2020 and centers on a world plagued by monstrous creatures known as kaiju, focusing on the elite Defense Force tasked with their extermination. Funko developed this figure as part of their broader expansion into contemporary anime properties, aiming to capture the distinct aesthetic of the series' character designs in their signature stylized vinyl form.
The design of this Pop! reflects the visual identity of the Defense Force uniform, focusing on the character's recognizable features and gear from the source material. Funko’s design team worked to balance the brand's simplified, large-eyed aesthetic with the specific armor detailing and color palettes established in the show. Upon its release, the figure was positioned for fans of the franchise, finding its place alongside other character releases from the same line intended to capitalize on the series' growth in international popularity.
