Skeletor

Skeletor, the quintessential antagonist of the Masters of the Universe franchise, was originally conceived by Mattel in the early 1980s as part of an expansive toy line that blended sword-and-sorcery tropes with science fiction. The character's iconic design, characterized by a yellowed, skull-like visage and a muscular physique, was crafted by designer Roger Sweet to serve as the definitive arch-nemesis to He-Man. This specific Pop! figure, number 1776 in the Television series, reimagines the classic villain within the stylized aesthetic that has defined Funko's brand since its inception in the late 1990s.

The figure draws heavily upon the character's enduring legacy in pop culture, specifically his appearance in the animated series that solidified his status as a recurring television staple. Funko’s design approach for this release focuses on the exaggerated features and vibrant color palettes central to the Masters of the Universe lore, aiming to evoke nostalgia among long-time collectors. Upon its release, the piece was received as a standard iteration in an extensive line of MOTU collectibles, maintaining the consistency and simplified form factor that the company uses to honor legacy intellectual properties.
