Where it came from
The Disco Skeletor Funko Pop, numbered 16 in the Television series, was released as a stylized homage to the iconic villain from the 1980s animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. This specific variant was designed to capture the campier, more whimsical side of 1980s pop culture, reimagining the dark sorcerer of Eternia with a vibrant color palette inspired by disco aesthetics rather than his traditional somber purple and blue armor.
The design process for this figure focused on blending the inherent grittiness of the Masters of the Universe aesthetic with Funko’s signature vinyl aesthetic. It was developed to appeal to both long-time fans of the franchise seeking niche variants and general collectors of pop-culture ephemera. While it stands out for its departure from the canonical depiction of Skeletor, it was received as a tongue-in-cheek collector's piece that highlights the experimental nature of the early Pop! Television line.
