Where it came from
Slapstick, known by his civilian name Steve Harmon, originated as a Marvel Comics character in the 1990s, designed to serve as a satirical, meta-fictional take on the superhero archetype. Drawing heavy visual and tonal inspiration from the anarchic spirit of classic animation, the character was created by writer Len Kaminski and artist James Fry. He was explicitly conceived as an homage to the 'rubber hose' cartoon style, possessing a body composed of unstable molecules that allows him to defy the laws of physics in the same manner as a Looney Tunes character.
This Funko Pop! figure, numbered 157 in the Marvel line, was released to celebrate the niche appeal of this unconventional hero during a period when Funko was aggressively expanding its roster to include lesser-known comic book figures. The design captures the character's signature jester-like appearance, complete with his vibrant, oversized gloves and boots. It was received by fans primarily as a cult-favorite deep cut, reflecting the company’s strategy of catering to dedicated Marvel collectors who value obscure characters alongside the traditional Avengers or X-Men figures.
