Where it came from
Slim, one of the iconic antagonists from the 1988 cult horror-comedy film Killer Klowns from Outer Space, was released as a Funko Pop! figure in 2019 to coincide with the Fall Convention circuit. The character design is based on the film's practical effects, which were created by the Chiodo Brothers to subvert traditional circus tropes. The figure captures Slim's exaggerated, lanky proportions and unsettling, permanent grin, reflecting the film's blend of campy nostalgia and genuine creature-feature aesthetics.
As part of the Pop! Movies line, this figure was designed to appeal to the growing demographic of collectors interested in 1980s genre cinema. The design process for these figures typically involves distilling complex, often grotesque character designs into Funko's signature minimalist vinyl format while maintaining recognizable details. The release was well-received by fans of the film, who had long awaited merchandise representing the Klowns, marking a significant moment in the transition of the movie from a cult underground favorite to a recognized pop-culture staple.
