Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! Movies line in 2017, this figure depicts Scotty Smalls, the relatable protagonist of the 1993 cult classic coming-of-age film The Sandlot. The figure is designed to capture Smalls' iconic look from his early days in the neighborhood, complete with his signature oversized glasses and baseball cap. It emerged during a period of heavy expansion for Funko, as the company sought to capitalize on Gen X and Millennial nostalgia for 90s cinema.
The aesthetic follows the standard stylized Funko aesthetic, featuring the oversized square head and simplified features characteristic of the brand's design language. The design focuses on key visual identifiers to evoke the character's transition from a fish-out-of-water newcomer to a member of the local ball-playing group. Upon its release, the figure was welcomed by film enthusiasts as a lighthearted tribute to the movie's enduring popularity and its themes of childhood friendship.
