Where it came from
Released as part of the Pop! Games series by Funko, this figure depicts Super Sonic, the powered-up, golden transformation of the iconic hedgehog from the Sega franchise. First appearing in the 1992 game Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the character represents Sonic utilizing the power of the seven Chaos Emeralds to achieve invincibility and enhanced speed. Funko designed this figure to capture the character's distinct golden aesthetic and spiked hair, catering to the growing market of long-time fans and video game collectors.
The figure reflects the broader design language of the Funko Pop! line, characterized by its oversized head, stylized facial features, and compact body proportions. As number 877 in the Games series, it arrived during a period of significant expansion for the line, where Funko sought to capitalize on nostalgia by producing figures for classic gaming properties. It was well-received by the collector community for its faithful representation of a beloved transformation and its vibrant coloring, which stands out among the standard blue Sonic variants.
