Where it came from
The Super Shredder Funko Pop, number 1138 in the Pop! Movies series, was produced to commemorate the iconic antagonist from the 1991 film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. The figure captures the character's heightened, mutated form, which was introduced in the film's climax following his exposure to the mutagen that the turtles were tasked with protecting. Its release is part of Funko's ongoing efforts to catalog major characters from cinematic history, particularly those within the beloved TMNT franchise.
The design of this figure leans heavily into the distinct aesthetic of the live-action suit used in the movie, emphasizing the more jagged and oversized armor components worn by actor François Chau and stunt performer Kevin Nash. Funko's design team focused on translating the cinematic practical effects into the signature stylized vinyl aesthetic, prioritizing the exaggerated spikes and dark, metallic color palette that defined the Super Shredder's menacing visual impact. Upon its release, it was well-received by collectors who prioritize film-accurate representations over comic book interpretations.
