Provenance

Where it came from

The Taran and the Horned King two-pack was released as a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive in 2017, representing the 1985 Disney animated feature The Black Cauldron. This film occupies a unique space in Disney history, often remembered for its darker, more mature tone that deviated significantly from the studio's traditional musical style at the time.

The design of these figures reflects Funko’s signature Pop aesthetic, translating the gothic, high-fantasy character models into simplified vinyl forms. Produced during a period where Funko heavily leaned into honoring cult classics and underserved cinematic properties, the set was received as a nostalgic gesture toward a film that had gained a dedicated following long after its initial lukewarm box office performance.
