Where it came from
This Funko Pop figure, released as part of the Pop! Marvel series, commemorates the aesthetic of Ben Grimm, known as The Thing, during his iconic appearances within the Fantastic Four mythos. The design specifically references his classic trench coat and fedora ensemble, a look frequently utilized in the comics to allow the character to navigate the public sphere without causing alarm. It serves as a nod to the character's enduring struggle to reconcile his monstrous exterior with his humanity.
The figure is branded under the 'First Steps' banner, reflecting the promotional efforts tied to the expansion of Fantastic Four-related media. Funko's designers focused on balancing the bulky, textured 'rock' aesthetic of the character with the clean, stylized lines of his makeshift disguise. Upon its release, the item was welcomed by collectors as a faithful representation of the character’s classic 'disguised' comic book aesthetic, fitting well within the broader Marvel Pop! lineup.
