Where it came from
The Thestral Funko Pop, numbered 17 in the Fantastic Beasts series, was released to coincide with the cinematic expansion of the Wizarding World. Inspired by the skeletal, winged creatures from the Harry Potter universe, this figure captures the ethereal and somber aesthetic of the creatures that are visible only to those who have witnessed death. The design focuses on the creature's angular, draconic frame and leathery wings, translating the film's CGI model into the stylized, large-headed vinyl format characteristic of the brand.
The figure emerged as part of the merchandising wave for the 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald' film release. Funko’s design team sought to maintain the haunting quality of the Thestral while adhering to their signature Pop! proportions, which often requires a balance between the franchise's darker source material and the brand's accessible, collectible appeal. It was generally received by the collecting community as an essential piece for fans aiming to complete their bestiary of creatures from the expanded franchise.
