Where it came from
Vault Boy first appeared in the 1997 release of Fallout as the iconic mascot for the Vault-Tec Corporation, serving as an upbeat, retro-styled guide for players navigating the series' post-apocalyptic wasteland. The character was originally illustrated by Leonard Boyarsky, who drew inspiration from 1950s instructional films and Monopoly iconography to create a stark visual contrast between the cheery, wholesome design of the character and the grim, irradiated world of the game.
This specific figure, number 98 in the Pop! Games series, was produced by Funko as part of a collaboration with Bethesda Softworks to celebrate the Fallout franchise. The design captures Vault Boy in the 'Charisma' pose, a direct reference to one of the core SPECIAL attributes in the game. Upon its release, it became a staple of the line, celebrated by collectors for its ability to condense the game's dark irony into a recognizable, stylized vinyl form.
