Where it came from
Witchiepoo, the iconic antagonist from the 1969 children's television series H.R. Pufnstuf, was immortalized as Funko Pop number 896 in 2020. The figure depicts the character in her classic witch attire, complete with her pointed hat and signature broomstick. This release was part of a broader push by Funko to celebrate retro television icons, appealing to the nostalgia of viewers who grew up with the surreal, colorful production design created by Sid and Marty Krofft.
The figure features the distinct oversized head and minimalist aesthetic characteristic of the Pop! Television line. In designing this piece, Funko aimed to translate the theatrical, campy makeup and costume of actress Billie Hayes into a recognizable vinyl format. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by collectors of vintage pop culture memorabilia as a faithful, stylized representation of a beloved character from the golden age of Saturday morning television.
