Where it came from
The AAT (Armored Assault Tank), set 30680-1, was released by The LEGO Group in 2022 as a polybag promotional set. This miniature model is based on the iconic separatist combat vehicle first featured in the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Designed as an accessible entry point for builders, the set captures the distinct rounded turret and primary cannon of the AAT in a compact, micro-scale format suitable for display or imaginative play.
The design of this iteration focuses on economy of form, utilizing a small piece count to replicate the characteristic tan and brown color scheme of the Trade Federation forces. While micro-scale sets often face challenges in balancing aesthetic accuracy with structural stability, this model was received by the collector community as a charming, efficient representation of the vehicle. Its release within the Star Wars theme reflects LEGO’s long-standing tradition of producing smaller, affordable companion sets to accompany their larger, more complex building kits.
