Where it came from
The Airport Fire Truck, set 60061, was released by The LEGO Group in 2014 as part of the City theme. Designed to capture the specialized aesthetic of emergency response vehicles found on airfield runways, it was developed during a period when the City line was focusing heavily on expanding its fleet of support and utility craft. The set reflects the brand's long-standing tradition of translating complex real-world industrial machinery into accessible, play-oriented models for younger builders.
The model features a robust construction intended to convey the power of an airport crash tender, incorporating a water cannon element and a modern color scheme of bright red and white. Upon its debut, the set was recognized by the community as a functional addition to the growing LEGO airport ecosystem, providing a necessary tactical complement to the larger modular airport terminal sets available at the time. Its design prioritizes playability and recognizable silhouettes, maintaining the signature style established by the City design team during the mid-2010s.
