Where it came from
The LEGO Alien Key Chain (852950-1) was released around 2010 as part of the broader LEGO promotional line, which utilized minifigures from the Collectible Minifigures Series 1. Designed to offer a functional accessory for fans, it features the distinct alien character—notable for its iconic oversized head mold and space-age aesthetic—permanently affixed to a metal ring and chain. The design directly mirrors the character found in the blind-bagged collectible series, bringing a touch of playful extraterrestrial character to the utilitarian keychain format.
During this era, LEGO expanded its merchandise reach by turning popular character designs into key chains, responding to the growing adult-collector market's interest in small, portable representations of their favorite figures. The alien design, with its classic science-fiction tropes and vibrant green coloring, was a standout from the first series of the blind-bagged figures. It was received as a simple, accessible collectible, appealing to those who enjoyed the whimsy of the space theme and appreciated the durability of the attached metal hardware.
