Where it came from
The Alien Jet, set 5617-1, was released in 2005 as part of the LEGO Explore line, a collection specifically designed for toddlers and young children. The series focused on chunky, tactile bricks and rounded components that were safe for smaller hands, moving away from the more complex construction methods of standard LEGO sets to encourage imaginative play through simple, intuitive assembly.
The design of the jet reflects the early 2000s aesthetic of the Explore theme, utilizing primary colors and streamlined, molded pieces to represent a futuristic craft. By focusing on durability and ease of use, the set aimed to introduce younger children to the concept of building and mechanical play, finding its place as a reliable entry-level toy for families during that period.
