Where it came from
Released in 2011 as part of the Lego Star Wars theme, this set recreates the iconic Boonta Eve Classic Podrace from The Phantom Menace. It serves as a modern iteration of the earlier 1999 set, incorporating updated building techniques, a more robust structural design for the delicate podracer engines, and a comprehensive lineup of minifigures to capture the scale of the cinematic event.
The set was designed to improve upon the playability and screen accuracy of its predecessor, reflecting the evolution of Lego's engineering during the 2010s. The design team focused on creating distinct, recognizable profiles for both Anakin’s sleek, exposed-engine craft and Sebulba’s aggressive, heavy-duty racer. Upon release, it was well-received by collectors for its successful balance of display aesthetics and the inclusion of a wide array of relevant characters, including Watto and Wald.
