Where it came from
The LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar, set number 7958-1, was released in 2011 as the inaugural entry in what would become a long-running annual tradition for the company. Produced as a seasonal tie-in, it was designed to bridge the gap between holiday tradition and the expansive Star Wars universe, offering a buildable surprise for each of the 24 days leading up to Christmas. The set marked a significant shift in LEGO strategy by combining a licensed intellectual property with the advent format, establishing a template for future iterations.
The design of the 7958 set focused on providing a cross-section of the original trilogy and prequel era, featuring a mix of micro-scale vehicles and specialized minifigures. It notably included an exclusive festive version of Yoda dressed as Santa Claus, which became a sought-after collectible. The set was generally well-received by fans and collectors, praised for its novelty and the inclusion of unique character variants that were not readily available in larger, standard playsets.
