Where it came from
The Arctic Ice Glider, released in 2018 as part of the Lego City Arctic Expedition sub-theme, was designed to expand the play potential of the polar research line. The set features a small, sleek hovercraft-style vehicle equipped with a cockpit, rotating fan, and skis, reflecting the adventurous spirit of modern exploration sets that emphasize specialized equipment for harsh environments.
The design emphasizes accessibility and playability, keeping with the aesthetic of the City line by incorporating functional elements like translucent blue ice elements and a minifigure equipped with specialized gear. It was generally received as a compact, entry-level addition to the series, praised for its efficient use of parts to capture the essence of Arctic exploration machinery.
