Where it came from
The 8018 Armored Assault Tank was released by the LEGO Group in 2009 as part of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars sub-theme. Designed to capture the aesthetic of the Trade Federation vehicles seen in both the prequel films and the animated television series, the set was produced to provide a robust, play-oriented version of the iconic heavy repulsor vehicle. It focused on functional features such as flick-fire missiles and an opening cockpit, prioritizing durability and screen-accurate proportions during a period when the LEGO Star Wars line was expanding its focus on the burgeoning Clone Wars multimedia project.
The set was illustrated and engineered to integrate with the broader LEGO Clone Wars collection, famously including the first appearance of the Ahsoka Tano minifigure. This inclusion made the set a highly sought-after piece for enthusiasts of the series and completists of the character. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans for its compact but detailed build, serving as a staple representation of Separatist military hardware that complemented the concurrent Republic-themed sets of that production era.
