Where it came from
The LEGO Friends friendship bracelets, part of set 4659597-1, were released as part of the broader LEGO Friends theme launched in 2012. This theme was developed after extensive research into how young girls played with building sets, resulting in a design shift toward more detailed lifestyle scenes, smaller 'mini-doll' figures, and color palettes distinct from the traditional primary-colored LEGO aesthetic. These bracelets served as accessible accessories to help children identify with the specific personality archetypes represented by the Heartlake City characters.
The design of these bracelets reflects the vibrant, approachable, and social-focused branding of the Friends line. They were intended to be modular and wearable tokens of the play experience, emphasizing themes of community and camaraderie. The sets were generally well-received by their target demographic, significantly expanding the company’s reach and helping to integrate building play into broader creative expression for young builders.
