Where it came from
BrickJournal, founded by Joe Meno, emerged in the mid-2000s as the preeminent print publication dedicated to the adult fan of LEGO (AFOL) community. Issue 29, published in 2014, arrived during a period when the hobby was rapidly evolving from a niche pastime into a globally recognized form of art and design. This particular edition serves as a snapshot of the community's creative maturity, documenting the techniques and cultural movements that defined the LEGO scene during that mid-2010s era.
The issue features a thematic focus on the artistic application of plastic bricks, showcasing builders who moved beyond standard sets to construct custom sculptures and dioramas. The editorial direction consistently aimed to bridge the gap between hobbyist construction and professional artistic expression, highlighting the work of various community contributors. As with the wider publication, it was received as a vital archival resource for enthusiasts looking to refine their skills and understand the history of community-driven design.
