Where it came from
Released in 2011 as part of the initial wave of the LEGO Ninjago theme, Bytar (9556-1) was one of the collectible spinner sets that integrated the popular buildable figure line with a tabletop game mechanic. These sets were designed to broaden the appeal of the Ninjago narrative, which launched that year alongside a television series, by offering a tactile way for fans to engage with the serpentine antagonists known as the Constrictai.
The figure features the distinct molding associated with the snake-themed villains of the era, characterized by a segmented, reptilian head piece and intricate torso printing meant to evoke ancient, subterranean warrior aesthetics. While the Ninjago theme was intended to blend traditional ninja lore with fantasy elements, the Bytar set focused on the collectible aspect of the toy line, finding its audience primarily among younger builders and fans of the Ninjago game system.
