Where it came from
The LEGO Creator Expert Carousel, released under set number 10257 in 2017, serves as a refined successor to the 2009 Grand Carousel. Designed by LEGO specialist Mike Psiaki, the model was conceived to capture the nostalgic essence of a traditional fairground attraction while pushing the mechanical complexity of the Creator Expert line. The design focuses on an authentic circular motion and a sophisticated gear system that allows the figures to rise and fall as the platform rotates, mirroring the experience of a classic steam-powered ride.
Upon its release, the set was noted for its integration of aesthetic detail and functional engineering, utilizing a robust internal structure to support its ornate, rotating canopy. The model utilizes a vibrant color palette and customizable animal figures, reflecting a design philosophy aimed at adult builders who appreciate both architectural display pieces and working kinetic models. It was generally well-received by the collector community for its ability to balance the technical challenge of its complex gearing with the charm of its whimsical, historical inspiration.
