Where it came from
The LEGO Friends Chocolate Kitchen, released in 2012 as set 561604-1, was a promotional polybag set designed to introduce the theme's initial aesthetic. Created at the dawn of the Friends line, the set features a simplified, pastel-centric design language intended to appeal to a younger demographic. It centers on the character Stephanie, providing a bite-sized look at the Heartlake City lifestyle that would come to define the long-running series.
The design of this kitchen set reflects the shift toward the 'mini-doll' figure, which departed from the traditional blocky minifigure to allow for more expressive, detailed interactions within a suburban setting. While modest in size, the set was received as a charming entry point for the Friends theme, effectively translating the brand's focus on domestic play and social scenarios into a highly accessible, miniature format.
