Where it came from
Released as part of the LEGO Friends theme, the Rabbit and hutch set (561606-1) was introduced in 2012 as a polybag promotional item. The Friends line was developed to expand the brand's appeal to a broader demographic by focusing on detailed, character-driven narratives centered around the residents of Heartlake City. This specific set was designed as a small-scale, accessible entry point into the theme, capturing a slice-of-life moment involving one of the many animal companions that populate the setting.
The design prioritizes the distinct color palette characteristic of the Friends aesthetic, utilizing bright pinks and teals to create a friendly, inviting visual style. Like other sets in the initial wave of the series, the piece was meant to encourage creative play and collection through the inclusion of a specialized animal figure and modular accessories. It was received as a charming micro-build that emphasized the nurturing and socialization aspects that define the core appeal of the Friends narrative world.
