Where it came from
Released in 2013 as part of the LEGO City Coast Guard subtheme, the Coast Guard Patrol set (60014-1) was designed to expand the play potential of the City line by introducing maritime rescue operations. The set features a large patrol craft, a smaller dinghy, a lighthouse with a pier, and a shark figure, reflecting the recurring focus of the City theme on emergency services and public infrastructure. Its design emphasizes functional play features such as a working winch and an opening hull for vehicle storage.
The set was developed during a period when LEGO was heavily investing in specialized aquatic elements and modular play structures. By incorporating a lighthouse, designers aimed to provide a narrative centerpiece for rescue missions, allowing children to simulate search-and-rescue scenarios. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans of the City theme for its substantial boat design and the inclusion of diverse play accessories, cementing its status as a notable example of the era's mid-sized vehicle-based sets.
