Where it came from
Released in 2013 as part of the Lego City Coast Guard subtheme, the Surfer Rescue set (60011-1) was designed to capture the dynamic nature of maritime emergency services. Following the standard Lego City philosophy of high playability for younger builders, the set provides an accessible entry point into the theme by featuring a rescue jet ski and a shark figure, allowing for imaginative rescue scenarios within a beach setting.
The design emphasizes movement and simple mechanics, characteristic of the City line’s focus on professional archetypes. By focusing on a singular, focused interaction between the lifeguard and the surfer, the set serves as a functional expansion for larger Lego City harbor or beach displays. Upon its release, it was well-received by collectors for its inclusion of unique molded animal elements and the practical utility of the rescue craft.
