Where it came from
Released in 2019 as part of the Lego Ninjago theme, the Spinjitzu Kai spinner was designed to celebrate the long-running series' aesthetic evolution. These sets were engineered as interactive toys, utilizing a specialized brick-built base and a ripcord mechanism that allowed the included character minifigure to rotate rapidly on a flat surface, mimicking the elemental martial arts techniques featured in the animated television show.
The design of this specific set draws heavily on the legacy-style update of the character Kai, incorporating his iconic red color scheme and dragon motifs. By focusing on simple, kinetic play, the designers aimed to make the complex lore of Ninjago accessible to younger builders while providing a display-friendly centerpiece for established fans of the theme.
