Where it came from
The Droid Gunship, set number 911729, was released in 2017 as a promotional foil-pack polybag tied to the Lego Star Wars magazine. These smaller, magazine-exclusive sets are designed to be accessible, entry-level models that condense the complex mechanical aesthetic of the Separatist forces from the Star Wars prequel trilogy into a handful of pieces. They serve as a bridge between the core building sets and the wider Star Wars fandom, often highlighting obscure or specialized craft.
The design of this model reflects the HMP (Heavy Missile Platform) gunship seen in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Despite the miniature scale, the designers focused on capturing the distinct, circular, forward-swept wing profile that defines the ship's predatory appearance. Within the Lego community, these promotional polybags are appreciated for their utility in building larger armies of droids, offering a cost-effective way to populate a collection with tactical assets from the Clone Wars era.
