Where it came from
The LEGO Star Wars Droid Gunship, set number 7678, was released in 2008 as part of the expanded range supporting the Clone Wars multimedia project. Designed to represent the HMP droid gunship seen in Episode III and the subsequent animated series, the set was engineered to capture the distinct, curved aerodynamic profile of the craft while incorporating play features such as flick-fire missiles and a detachable cockpit assembly.
Development of the set focused on translating the organic, insectoid aesthetics of the Separatist machinery into LEGO bricks, a challenge that required specialized sloped elements and dark blue color schemes. Upon its release, it was generally well-received by fans of the theme for its accurate representation of the source material's unconventional design, serving as a functional troop transport companion to the larger scale Republic vehicles produced during the same period.
