Where it came from
The LEGO City Fire Plane, set 60217, was released in 2019 as part of the broader Fire subtheme. This set was designed to capture the excitement of forest fire rescue operations, providing builders with an aerial firefighting vehicle. It fits into the longstanding City range, which focuses on contemporary service vehicles and emergency response scenarios meant to reflect modern urban and suburban life.
The design features a focus on playability, incorporating a water-drop mechanism that allows users to deploy round trans-blue tiles to simulate extinguishing flames. The set was illustrated and engineered by the LEGO City design team to be modular and compatible with other fire-related sets in the collection. Upon its release, it was generally well-received by the building community for its functional drop-gate design and the inclusion of a pilot and firefighter minifigure, which enhanced the narrative possibilities for younger builders.
