Where it came from
Released in 1997 as part of the Lego Technic line, the 8248 Forklift was designed to showcase the series' focus on functional mechanical movement. During this era, Technic sets moved toward realistic construction equipment, utilizing the classic stud-based system that predated the modern studless beam construction. The design prioritized the rack-and-pinion steering and a working lifting mechanism, providing a tactile lesson in simple gear-driven machines for young builders.
The model was part of a larger mid-nineties effort to refine the aesthetic and playability of industrial vehicles. While not as complex as the pneumatic-heavy sets that followed, the 8248 was well-regarded for its compact scale and efficient use of parts. It remains a notable example of late-nineties Technic engineering, capturing a period when the theme balanced durability with recognizable, real-world utility.
