Where it came from
Released in 2013 as part of the LEGO City Police subtheme, the High Speed Chase set 60007-1 was designed to capture the dynamic energy of a cinematic pursuit. The set reflects a broader trend during the early 2010s where LEGO focused on high-action play scenarios, pairing a sleek police interceptor with a matching criminal getaway car. It was conceived as a mid-sized entry point for the City line, offering enough complexity to satisfy builders while maintaining the playability required for a younger demographic.
The design of the set focuses on the contrast between the authoritative aesthetic of the police vehicle and the rugged, sporty appearance of the thief's escape car. Utilizing a classic color palette of blue and white for the police unit and dark tones for the criminal counterpart, the designers aimed to foster intuitive narrative play. Upon its release, it was well-received by the community for its successful inclusion of three minifigures—two officers and a thief—which allowed for immediate role-playing and storytelling right out of the box.
