Where it came from
Released in 2021 as part of the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes theme, In Arishem's Shadow was designed to coincide with the cinematic release of Marvel Studios' Eternals. The set serves as a structural representation of the film's climax, focusing on the imposing Celestial figure, Arishem, and providing a play-scale scene that incorporates key characters from the movie. The design team aimed to capture the massive scale of the Celestial through a buildable figure, paired with a small flyer to reflect the aerial combat sequences presented in the source material.
The reception of this set was mixed, primarily due to the artistic tension between the high-fantasy aesthetic of the Eternals characters and the utilitarian nature of LEGO's plastic brick medium. Collectors and fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe generally viewed it as a functional display piece for the accompanying minifigures, though the build of Arishem itself was noted for its unique color palette and distinct geometric construction compared to standard Marvel sets.
