Where it came from
Kai, cataloged as 891609-1, was released as part of the LEGO Ninjago promotional polybag series. The Ninjago theme itself debuted in 2011, drawing inspiration from Eastern martial arts and elemental mythology to create a narrative-driven play experience. This specific version of the character was designed to accompany the broader launch of various Ninjago sub-themes, serving as an accessible way for collectors to obtain the iconic Master of Fire minifigure.
The design of the character centers on the signature red and gold color scheme associated with the Fire Ninja. As with all Ninjago minifigures, the aesthetic reflects the distinct transition from traditional LEGO stylization to a more specialized, action-oriented look, featuring detailed torso printing that showcases the character's elemental crest. It was received as a standard addition to the series, valued primarily for its role in expanding the roster of playable characters for fans of the show and the associated construction sets.
